Pricing each video by the minute on its own repeats the foundation cost in every lesson, so the budget swells for no reason.

When building a whole visual curriculum many fall into the trap of multiplying the price of a single video by the number of lessons. This guide explains how the budget is broken into its items and what to ask the studio, without quoting figures because the price follows your scope. To learn what sets a price in general and how to compare quotes read [animation prices in Egypt](/en/blogs/motion-graphics-video-prices-2026-comprehensive-guide), and for the large-scale production system [production at scale](/en/blogs/hawadet-studio-creative-production-partner).

- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">🏗️</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**Foundation once:** The identity, the character, the scene templates and the repeated environments such as the lab and the board.</span>
- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">📉</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**The cost of a lesson after the library:** Each lesson carries animation and sound only, and does not reload the foundation.</span>
- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">📦</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**Agreeing a bundle:** Ask how the size of the order changes the quote, and do not assume a discount.</span>
- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">📝</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**Variables stated openly:** Sound, music, revisions and changes to the curriculum are items that get written.</span>

</div>Why does pricing by the minute wreck a curriculum budget?
---------------------------------------------------------

If you take the cost of one minute from a quote for a single custom video and multiply it by the total minutes of a whole curriculum you get an inflated figure. The reason is that the price of a single video includes a whole foundation (a character design, an identity, templates) paid once, and repeating it in every lesson is a mistake.

A serial educational video resembles a series: the first episode consumes the largest part of the budget because it builds the assets, then the cost of the following episodes falls. How far it falls depends on your style and your number of lessons, which is why you should ask the studio to itemise the foundation and the lesson separately so you can see the difference yourself.

<div class="blog-table-wrap"><table class="table table-bordered"><thead><tr><th>Budget item</th><th>When paid</th><th>What it covers</th><th>What to ask</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Foundation</td><td>Once, at the start</td><td>The style guide, the character and its sheet, the library of backgrounds and icons, the scene templates</td><td>What goes into it, and does it include a model lesson?</td></tr><tr><td>The model lesson</td><td>After the foundation</td><td>One full lesson that sets the style and the rhythm</td><td>Is it inside the foundation or a separate item?</td></tr><tr><td>Producing a lesson</td><td>Per lesson or per batch</td><td>Animation within the templates, sound, mixing and delivery</td><td>What makes one lesson price differ from another?</td></tr><tr><td>Writing</td><td>Before animation</td><td>The instructional script and its review</td><td>Who writes it? And is it inside the price?</td></tr><tr><td>Sound</td><td>Per lesson</td><td>The performer and the recording</td><td>How many voices, in what dialect, and how many recording rounds?</td></tr><tr><td>Revisions</td><td>In stages</td><td>Review rounds on the script, the storyboards and the animation</td><td>How many rounds are included, and what is an extra one priced at?</td></tr><tr><td>Curriculum changes</td><td>When needed</td><td>Re-producing a lesson after it is approved</td><td>What is the mechanism and how many can change without fees?</td></tr></tbody></table>

</div>How do you build the budget? Four steps
---------------------------------------

1. **Separate the foundation cost from the production cost:** count a separate one-off item, paid at the start of the project and serving every lesson.
2. **Price the model lesson after the foundation:** fix the average lesson length, then ask for the price of a lesson assuming the library exists. This is the basis on which you build for the number of lessons.
3. **Ask about bundles, do not assume them:** ordering a large group of lessons at once may let the studio plan and distribute, which affects the quote, but ask and do not assume a discount. And ask for a delivery schedule in batches.
4. **Fix the separate variables:** voiceover (one language or more), music, review rounds per lesson, and changes to the curriculum after production starts. All are items fixed openly to avoid surprises.

When does a project not justify its own character and library?
--------------------------------------------------------------

- When the number of lessons is very small, since the foundation will not spread over enough lessons.
- When the content does not represent your institution before an audience that paid for distinctive quality, template tools may suffice; read [free versus professional](/en/blogs/free-vs-professional-should-make-educational).
- When the curriculum changes radically every short while, since a library built for one curriculum will not serve the new one.
- When you have nobody in-house to check the facts and run the curriculum.

On the other hand, if you intend hundreds of lessons over years, the foundation is an investment. For the character specifically and what drives its cost read [the cost of designing an exclusive cartoon character](/en/blogs/cost-designing-exclusive-cartoon-characters).

And do not forget your own time: checking the facts, writing the notes and approving the stages is internal work with a cost that does not appear in the studio's quote, so put it in your calculation. A library that the subject expert does not review seriously ends in re-production rather than savings.

Common mistakes in a library budget
-----------------------------------

- **Multiplying the price of a single video by the number of lessons:** so the budget swells. Separate the foundation.
- **Assuming a volume discount:** that is not written in the quote.
- **Leaving out the curriculum-changes item:** so fees arrive that were not counted.
- **Neglecting sound and writing:** so they appear as extra items later.
- **Squeezing the foundation to save money:** although it is what saves effort in every other stage.
- **No batch delivery schedule:** so you cannot review quality early.

Suppose a school is given two quotes for a library, the first one price per lesson and the second two items: foundation and lesson. It puts them in one table and asks both about writing, sound and revisions, and finds that the first does not include sound while the second includes a model lesson. This is a hypothetical example to show the method, not something that happened.

How do we look at the foundation?
---------------------------------

Hawadet Studio is an early-stage Arabic animation studio, and we do not show a price list because the price follows the scope of your project. We learned that the biggest mistake that forced us to redo work was rushing the foundation steps to save time, and that the foundation, however long it takes, is what saves effort in every later stage. So we advise you not to let budget pressure fall on the foundation.

We work in successive stages reviewed before delivery under a flexible revision policy within a scope agreed in advance. Our original work is on the [projects page](/en/projects).

Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

### How much does the cost of a lesson fall after the library is built?

It depends on the complexity of the style and the number of lessons, but the difference is substantial because each lesson pays animation and sound only instead of the full foundation. Ask the studio to itemise the foundation and the lesson separately so you see the difference yourself.

### Do I own the library after the project?

This is a clause written into the contract: who owns the library, the lessons and the source files. Require what you need so you can expand later.

### What if the curriculum changes during production?

Fix the mechanism of change in the contract: how many lessons can change without fees, and the price of re-producing a lesson after it is approved.
