<div class="article-date"> Jul 14, 2025 <span style="margin: 0 8px; color: rgba(255,255,255,0.3);">|</span> <span style="color: rgba(255,255,255,0.4);">Hawadet Studio</span> </div> </div></div><div class="article-content-wrapper"><div class="blog-content">A channel or platform builds a library of values-aligned animation in four steps: a written standards document shared with the studio before the script, one model series whose performance it measures before expanding, a scalable production system with an asset library and templates, and a clear contract on rights, languages and dialects. Original production gives you an asset you own, while imported content needs heavy review because it carries values and messages that may not suit your audience.

This guide is for the content, acquisition and original-production departments of channels and platforms aimed at the family. We give no market figures because we have no reliable statistics on it; we give a way of working. For stage-by-stage safety review read [ensuring safe content for children](/en/blogs/ensuring-safe-content-for-children-in-animation-projects), and for the difference between purposeful and preachy [purposeful children's content](/en/blogs/discover-purposeful-kids-content-in-animation).

<div style="background: #f8f9fa; border-left: 4px solid #7c3aed; padding: 25px; border-radius: 12px; margin: 35px 0; box-shadow: 0 4px 15px rgba(0,0,0,0.05); color: #1a202c;">### 📊 A values-aligned library: four points

- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">📜</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**Written standards:** What is acceptable, what is avoided and how particular subjects are portrayed, before the script.</span>
- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">🎬</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**A model series:** A first season of one series whose performance you measure, then expand on what shows.</span>
- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">🏗️</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**A scalable system:** An asset library and templates that allow episodes at a steady quality.</span>
- <span style="font-size: 1.4rem; line-height: 1.2;">🔑</span> <span style="font-size: 1.1rem; line-height: 1.6; color: #4a5568;">**Rights and languages:** Who owns what, and which languages and dialects are targeted, before production.</span>

</div>Why is importing alone not enough?
----------------------------------

Imported content mostly carries values and hidden messages that may not suit a particular audience, and reviewing it is costly because it happens on a finished work that cannot be changed. Original production lets values be reviewed in the script, and lets the setting, names, dialect and cultural references be close to the child from the start.

<div class="blog-table-wrap"><table class="table table-bordered"><thead><tr><th></th><th>Licensed ready-made content</th><th>Original production</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Values review</td><td>On a finished work, with limited change possible</td><td>In the script and storyboards, before drawing</td></tr><tr><td>Local identity</td><td>As it happens to be</td><td>Designed from the start: setting, names, dialect</td></tr><tr><td>Ownership</td><td>A licence with a term and conditions</td><td>May be yours, and is agreed in writing</td></tr><tr><td>Time</td><td>Quicker to get content</td><td>Slower at first and better able to expand after the foundation</td></tr><tr><td>Flexibility</td><td>Little</td><td>High: seasons, languages and expansion</td></tr></tbody></table>

</div>The point is not to give up licensed content, but to know what deserves to be built as original: the characters and worlds you want to distinguish your platform by.

How do you build a values-aligned library? Five steps
-----------------------------------------------------

1. **Set the value standards in writing:** a clear document (what is acceptable, what is avoided, how particular subjects are portrayed) shared with the studio before the script. It prevents later disputes and speeds up review.
2. **Begin with one series as a model:** produce a first season and measure its performance (viewing, retention, parents' responses), then expand the library on the data.
3. **Build a scalable production system:** an asset library and template system with the partner studio allow episodes and seasons at a steady quality.
4. **Agree the rights early:** original production may mean ownership of the series and characters, an asset that may be licensed and expanded, but this is written into the contract and not assumed.
5. **Plan for languages and dialects:** decide early which versions you need so the voice performance can be planned.

What do you write in a values-standards document?
-------------------------------------------------

<div class="blog-table-wrap"><table class="table table-bordered"><thead><tr><th>Item</th><th>What it sets</th><th>Why it matters</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Intended values</td><td>Which values you want to grow out of the plot</td><td>So they do not turn into sermons</td></tr><tr><td>Prohibitions</td><td>What does not appear and is not hinted at</td><td>To speed up review</td></tr><tr><td>Age group</td><td>The target age of each series</td><td>To set fear, pacing and language</td></tr><tr><td>Religious and historical figures</td><td>Whom the studio consults on depiction</td><td>So scenes are not redone after drawing</td></tr><tr><td>Advertising and sponsorship</td><td>What may appear and how it is declared</td><td>To avoid hidden advertising</td></tr><tr><td>Language and dialect</td><td>Simplified standard Arabic or a dialect, and who reviews the dialogue</td><td>For a steady tone</td></tr><tr><td>Approval path</td><td>Who approves each stage and within what time</td><td>To avoid endless waiting</td></tr></tbody></table>

</div>The document stays alive: you add to it every repeated note from parents and teachers, until it becomes a standard that outlives any team.

Questions an acquisitions team asks of a studio's proposal
----------------------------------------------------------

- How will you review the values in the script, and who takes part in the review?
- How do you keep characters consistent across episodes and seasons?
- What are the approval stages, and how many revision rounds does each include?
- How do you handle religious and historical figures and sensitive scenes?
- Who owns the characters and the source files, and what are the licensing terms?
- How do you plan for other languages and dialects from the design stage?

Common mistakes in building a values-aligned library
----------------------------------------------------

- **Starting production without a document:** so every objection becomes a personal opinion. Write the standards first.
- **Producing a whole season before a trial:** so the problem is found after it has repeated.
- **One review at the end:** since changing after drawing and recording is costly. Review from the script.
- **Leaving rights to custom:** so you find out after success that the characters are not yours.
- **Overlooking sound:** one of the most important factors in quality and in a child's acceptance of the work.
- **Confusing “safe” with “no conflict”:** conflict is necessary to the plot; safe means the messages carry no harm.

Suppose a family platform wants its first original series. It writes a two-page standards document, asks a studio for a treatment, characters and a test scene, reviews the values in the script, then produces the first episodes and measures parents' responses before deciding on a whole season. This is a hypothetical example to show the method, not something that happened.

How do we work with channels and platforms?
-------------------------------------------

Hawadet Studio is an early-stage Arabic animation studio. We work in successive stages reviewed before delivery: the script first, then the storyboards, then the sound, then the final cut, under a flexible revision policy within a scope agreed in advance, and we can work with a partner on a joint project under a written agreement that says who owns what. Our 2D work is hand-drawn, and our 3D is cinematic for historical and heritage stories.

In “The Hidden Kingdom”, our original series about rabbits and falcons learning to live together, we keep a written character bible that makes reviewing a character's behaviour easier. And we learned that the biggest mistake that forced us to redo work was rushing the foundation to save time. Our work is on the [projects page](/en/projects).

Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

### Does safe content mean content without conflict?

No. Conflict is necessary to the plot and to learning. “Safe” means the messages and values carry no harm, not that the story has no challenge.

### How long does a season take to produce?

It depends on the number of episodes, their length and the complexity of the style. It is fixed in the contract as a staged delivery schedule after a test scene or episode, so we do not promise a time before we see the scope.

### Can the series be dubbed into other dialects later?

Yes, and owning the source files makes that easier. Decide the target languages and dialects early so the voice performance can be planned. The detail is in [dubbing video content](/en/blogs/ai-video-dubbing-and-translation).
